Blog Assignment 3: “What is the relation between politics and globalization?”
by Sky Choi( CHOI HA NEUL)
1.Summary
With regard to political globalization, the literature on globalization emphasizes the decline of a nation's state amid the flow of globalization, while promoting various types of politics and reorganization resulting from the formation of cross-border and cross-national networks. Political globalization can be understood as a tension between three processes which interact to produce the complex field of global politics: global geopolitics, global normative culture and polycentric networks. The process of political globalization may open up the possibility of new liberalization, but on the other hand, it will lose autonomy and divide society. The efforts towards "political globalization" discussed in this chapter highlight the diverse nature of globalization. It is considered to be a relational dynamic, not a new type of reality.
In this chapter, we examine the dynamics of these three political globalizations in four ways: the conversion of nationality and citizenship, public places and political communication, civil society, and regional and national boundaries.
we can point to three dilemmas to which these complex relationships give rise and the implications for the tension between autonomy and fragmentation.
First, the globalization of the nation-state and its political members and institutionalized governance models have been formed in the aspiration for universal democracy. A nation-state is an important tool for political autonomy through the sovereignty of its people, and democracy is a symbol of its important membership in society.
At the same time, criticism of democracy is at the core of much controversy.Political collusion Democracy is universally desired and universally distrusted for its elitist, authoritarian and formalities.A democratic deficit is being discovered no matter where democracy is, rather than being substantial, importative or unorthodox.
Second, the international standardization culture has long been popularized by INGO. the development of the state as a global form also acted as a vector of global norms on the character of the world. These processes of individuals protected by human rights law are extend the possibility of a gathering in a new international community created in the wake of the recognition that human need is greater. "World Risk Society" (Beck)
Thirdly, the development of a polycentric network, especially the Global Civil Society, creates new opportunities for autonomy, and those working for a diverse set of new actors and forms of government, while at the same time creating new instabilities and dangers.
Political globalization has created new tensions and built up politics.Main political conflicts have been centered on the division of classes, the state-to-citizen society, conflicts between traditional and industrial economies, and the possible resistance to imperial rule.
2.What was interesting:
The idea of civil society has caused much controversy and, as it stands, only refers to the political sphere between the state and the markets where informal politics are practiced. Globally, this is a new area that transcends state and intergovernmental domains and is independent of global capitalism. An international civil society has emerged that surrounds all kinds of social movements, including international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), grassroots organizations, global anti-capitalist demonstrations, and global anti-terrorism and social movements. The characteristics of a global civil society are that it is multifaceted and multifaceted, not based on a single principle of organization, except that it is globally organized by a broad horizontal coalition and networks. It is important to note that these three aspects of globalization are all products of globalization and do not exist separately because they are interrelated.
"World civil society" has emerged along with the trend of globalization.Recently emphasized "global governance" means "governance" at a global level, which is a consensus between states and people who want to share the same interests across national borders. Today's discussion of "global governance" is focused on the participation of INGOs, which have been called upon by the international community to strengthen their new relationship of "global governance" with a number of supernational organizations, particularly INGOs. Although the government has recently agreed to the involvement of INGOs at a certain level at the international level, concerns that restrict national sovereignty still prevent them from participating in the program. In particular, it is conceivable that INGOs have not yet joined as partners in core policy decisions. Nevertheless, it is clear that the role of INGOs has been strengthened to ensure that "world civil society" is able to secure its territory. In the 21st century, the role of INGO is expected to be unduly important in order to build a solid world civil society.
3. Discussion
Globalization is not only related to economic and financial flows. It is also closely related to human relations, the flow of thought and political relations. In addition, one country does not have the same political elements as another. After becoming globalized, nations form relationships and they are influenced by each other politically. In South Korea, political factors are especially influential, and nuclear issues surrounding the relationship between North Korea and South Korea are at the center of this issue, in which the United States, Japan, China and Russia are involved. Until now, Korea has not been able to solve the problems of Korea itself, but last year and this year, I think, Korea has become able to make decisions, and I think it's the process of seeking independence. Even though it was a Korean issue in the past, political hegemony of other countries occurred in Korea, and its influence was tremendous.
