CULTURAL GLOBALIZATION
The relationship between globalization and culture.
Now we will relate the globalization and the culture. As we know
that globalization is a multidimentional process, and the aspects are economy,
politics, technological development, media and communication, environmental
change and the culture. In globalization, we understand about the relationship
between one country to another country, and it is interesting that other countries
can affect each other, such as the fashion, technology, and they can do export
and import product to each pther and give benefits to each other, and they built
the connectivity between countries that can affect the peoples in every country.
The most popular is Korean culture that is happening these days, especially in
Indonesia, Korean culture is rising up in Indonesia, especially in our capital
city, Jakarta. This is the example of how globalization can influence each
other countries. And if we relate it with culture, culture is the impact of the
globalization, or we can called cultural consequences. The interpretation of
this can called a “cultural imperialism”, “Americanization”, or “westernization”,
an the others. Culture can constantly motivate other people toward people’s decisions,
choices and actions. According to article, Anthony Giddens said that cultural
globalization increasing reflexivity of modern life.
A global culture?
There is some speculation about the connectivity of countries by
globalization that now we can see more about the unifying effect of world
because of the connectivity and globalization. The effect of the globalization
can be affect every single persen or place on the worls, and it can affect the society
political, cultural division around us. Cultural globalization indeed called
cultural imperialism, and there are the domination of world culture through
iconic brands like Disney, cocacola, Marlboro, Microsoft, Google, McDonalds,
CNN, Starbucks, and the others. Popular music can be spread to the entire
world, and dominate, especially for the genre of the music that is popular in
the world. That is like an example how some brands or some things can be used
and consumpted by all over the world, and maybe for some products, we’ll
satisfied by the productions, and we can find the new one for satisfaction of
people’s.
Deterritorialization
Globalization is rapidly move and changing the experience of
locality and the way to grasping is “deterritorialization”. According to the
article, Nestor Gracia Canclini said that Deterritorialization implies the loss
of the natural relation of culture to geographical location of a culture, not
just the physical, environmental and climatic location, but self-definitions,
ethnic boundaries and delimiting practices that have accrued around this. Deterritorialization means the significance of
the geographical location of the culture. It refers to reach connectivity into
the localities in everyday life that is conducted and experienced. This is not
just simply loss the experience of local culture, deterritorialization refers
to the integration of distant events, processes and relationship to everyday
live. Deterritorializing aspect of globalization felt in everyday life like
when we choose between eating Japanese, Mexican, or Indonesian food, or watch Opera
or political event. These activities reach deep into our individual cultural “worlds”,
horizon od cultural and moral relevance, or our sense of cultural and national
identity.
Cosmopolitanism and cultural identity
Identity means to differentiate, so in cultural identity we’re
talking about differentiating the culture and socially regulating of modern
life. We can differentiate it from gender, class, sexuality, religion, race and
ethnic, and nationality and these are already existed before modernity, but the
way they’re known, publicate, named, and regulated, it is relevant with the
modernity. Globalization distributes the institutional features of modernity across
all cultures, it generates the institutionalized forms of cultural belonging.
The crucial mistake about globalization is to confuse
western-modern form of cultural imagination with universal human experience. But
from history, the historical culture had already constructed the identity.
What I learn/ interesting topic:
I’ve learn something that globalization is related with culture,
and I just know that globalization has the effect, and that is culture, and
world becoming culturalization, and the culture can become one in the world. I
like this topic about globalization and culture, and how globalization’s effect
will be the culture of world, and now I know the process of how globalization
can affect and influence other countries. Now, I know that world can have their
own culture, and become one culture that will be used by every one, every
person in this world, and that is our daily life and it is around us and we
always do that kind of culture in our daily life, and now I realize that is
globalization and how they processed in our life.
Discussion :
Is there another example about cosmopolitanism and cultural
identity that is real in our daily life these days? And another example about
deterritorialization? And Is there another possibility that from globalization will
give disadvantages to each other country? Because in Indonesia we got so many
disadvantage like now we’re kinda love another country than our own country, is
that possible? Or just our country?
