Blog assignment 1  - What is Globalization / Han Seung Min

1. Summary

Globalization is a mixture of many different factors. This document provides a variety of views on such globalization. One is that there are many views at the center of globalization such as world domination, world citizenship, human rights and immigration. The other is that globalization is an object, a point of view, a horizon. Globalization can be understood as a way for the world to move.

Globalization can be seen not only in the economy but also in many areas such as cultural and political factors. Economic globalization is a growing economic interdependence of the global economy through the rapid increase of movement across borders of goods, services, technology and capital. Political globalization refers to the development of a political infrastructure of international governance. In the past, political globalization was attempted through war. Today, it is attempted through diplomacy, often through intergovernmental organizations. Cultural globalization is the most visible part of globalization, such as K-pop and Starbucks.

Globalization has three characteristics. First, two goals of globalization are to increase connectivity among nations internationally and to increase the sense of the world. Second, countries around the world are joined by many international organizations. Not only domestic but diplomatic and international issues will be discussed through international organizations. This is one of the biggest features of globalization. Finally, globalization consists of culture, society, politics, and economics. This is the main aspect of human life.

2. Interesting Point

Robertson claimed the world had become a place. This argument has had a great impact on social science. Globalization is happening in economic, cultural and political areas. The remarkable thing about globalization of culture was that it was the trend toward Americanization. Today, the impact of American pop culture and lifestyle represented by Hollywood films, pop music and Disneyland is greater than ever. I felt that globalization was more of an impact on the developed countries, which focused on the United States than on globalization.

Globalization is an important concept for understanding social changes around the world. Since the late 1990s, exchanges between countries have exploded, and globalization has been active in the development of ICT. Another interesting thing was that as globalization progressed, people tended to evaluate it from a positive and negative perspective. I think globalization is a new opportunity to improve our political, economic and cultural lives and a crisis to strengthen global inequality. So we need a more comprehensive, in-depth understanding of globalization, and a more aggressive, multidisciplinary response strategy.

3. Discussion

I want to find out how globalization affects each country. I also wonder if there will be any negative effects as globalization progresses. For example, I think that as globalization progresses, the economic, political, and cultural aspects of each country change. So I wonder how the traditional culture of each country should be preserved.
