Blog Assignment 1: What is Globalization? by Sky Choi( CHOI HA NEUL)

1.Summary
Globalization is a very common and very detailed subject. Many themes such as global governance, global citizenship, human rights, migration and the creation of diasporas, and transnational connections of various kinds are included in the concept of globalization. It is difficult to define clearly what globalization is. Because so many themes are in the definition of globalization. And Asking people what is globalization? they will answer differently. Because they lived in a different background. So, the answer can also different. Velho regarded globalization as a point of view, an object, a horizon. In his paradigm, globalization is understood as the direction in which the world moves as a whole.

Globalization was discussed from the late 1970 through the early 1980 by explicit names in sociology, anthropology, and religious studies. However, as recently more and more clear, concerns about effective globalization have begun centuries ago.

From the late 1980 to the early 1990, the word "globalization" was not completely academic, it was not used as a political or intellectual discourse. In 1989, it was widely used at the time of the collapse of the Berlin Wall.
The perspective of globalization in the 2000 is divided into two aspects, globalization above and below. Supporters of globalization above emphasize the positive effect of globalization. and globalization of below followers are people who participate in globalization prevention campaigns at various organization meetings. Many people view globalization as enhancing connectivity. In fact, there are many things to consider, such as subjective and cultural factors. It took many centuries for humans to recognize the cultural aspect of globalization.
Globalization is not only mentioned by sociologists but also in many areas such as economic, cultural and political factors. What we should think about is that society is forgotten. there is A good example of globalization with social dimensions.
it called the McDonaldization. The term is concern about the spread of American culture, economy, society and politics to much of the rest of the world. And interestingly it is also necessary to adapt the brand to the local situation in order to evenly spread the consumption of goods and services around the world.
It is important to be geographically adapted to become global.

The concept of glocalization was about the relationship between global and local. It is important that these cultures understand Glocalization in conjunction with local values and assimilate two different cultures so that they can be easily accepted in countries with different cultural values. This will enable the sale of global products in the region.

2.What was interesting
The subject that I was interested in reading was glocalization. To redefine the meaning of glocalization, the combination of "globalization" and "localization" means a management method that simultaneously executes strategies of globalization and localization. We are also engaged in global market management activities reflecting regional culture, customer characteristics and desires. The strategy is to implement the appropriate strategy locally.
An example of Glocalization from the reading about McDonald 's vision is "actions considered globally". Used the same brand, the interior inside the store, color, but the hamburger 's ingredients Pat reflected the taste of each customer. Chicken meat was used instead of beef in the Indian market which did not eat beef.
Meanwhile, the case of Wal-Mart, which failed to localize in South Korea, came to mind. The reason for the failure and withdrawal of the Korean market is that they have not understood the tastes and cultural characteristics of Korean consumers and have applied their business methods as they are.
They installed dark warehouses and high shelves in the old fashion, sold large quantities of frozen food, and had no understanding of the Korean consumers' culture of buying and cooking bright, luxurious shops, hand-held shelves and fresh food.

In the end, the blind faith in securing existing profitability and competitiveness resulted in failure of localization strategies to suit the tastes of Korean consumers, which were sold to local companies and withdrawn.

3. Discussion:
I think it would be interesting to discuss why if globalization is viewed positively and negatively, just as it is divided in the top and bottom topics about globalization. It also presents several blueprints on how globalization should be done. If globalization inevitably requires those who benefit and suffer losses, it would be better to discuss how to maximize the positive aspects and distribute them evenly.
In closing, the post-Cold War, the expansion of liberal democracy, the market economy, development, With the development of technology, the world is becoming increasingly communal. People all over the world share various elements, including politics, economics and culture. Globalization is one issue that cannot be prevented, and globalization has led the world to experience tremendous growth, including economic development, modernization, and technology development.
However, there are also negative aspects like the two sides of the coin. The gap between the rich and the poor, such as inter-Korean issues, and the environment, children, women, human rights, health problems, and so on. These problems appear in every country experiencing globalization and I think they should be addressed together.
